Get to Know Your Orange Man: #54, OG Austin Chandler

Today we meet a player who pulled a “Reverse Cassillo”- going from L.A. to Syracuse

NCAA Football: Louisville at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Austin Chandler

Position: Offensive Guard

Year: (Redshirt) Freshman

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 299

Hometown: Los Angeles, California

High School: Loyola

2017 Stats: Redshirt season, but Austin was selected to the ACC Academic Honor Roll

2018 projections: We might see Chandler used on special teams situations, but he’s unlikely to crack the two-deep for the Syracuse Orange this season.

How’d he get here: He received offers from Stetson and the University of San Diego but decided to take a preferred walk-on spot with the Orange.

What’d recruiting sites say?: 2-stars

Money Quote: I’m using this space to point out that Mike Lynch got an inquiry from a player in LA in late January and immediately booked a trip West to make the preferred walk-on offer in person.

“It meant a great deal to me, his willingness to come 3,000 miles to meet me and my coach,” Chandler said via Twitter direct message. “We discussed how we both expect me to develop into a starter and eventually earn a scholarship.

Mike Lynch knows that even a day of warm weather can help you survive a CNY winter.

Tweets of wonder: He’s been pretty quiet since arriving in Syracuse, but Austin’s got great taste in bow ties

What movie would Dino recommend for him: Dino’s going to select “To Live and Die in LA”, a movie starring Willem Dafoe as a counterfeiter who kills a Secret Service agent. The murder sends the agent’s partner on a personal vendetta to seek revenge

Interesting nugget o’interest: Austin’s majoring in music business so maybe he’ll be involved in upgrading the Dome soundtrack as renovations begin.

Let’s get a good look at you: No video from his freshman year, so here are his senior year highlights from Loyola
