Syracuse football recruiting: Quebec linebacker Geoff Cantin commits

Canada’s College Team scores another “local.”

After news that an A-list actor a three-star JUCO corner signed earlier, you probably figured this day couldn’t get any better for Syracuse Orange football.

Well, what if it could, by getting another 2019 commitment — the team’s third in the last week and a half?

Cantin, who’s an unrated linebacker from Quebec City, Quebec, announced his commitment today after receiving an offer this week and attending camp last week at SU. Syracuse.com says he’s 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, which sounds like exactly what the Orange need in linebackers to fit the current Tampa-2 scheme.

Tyrell Richards (Ontario) and Patrick Davis (Quebec) are the most recent Canadians on the Syracuse football roster, and like Cantin, little was known about them in advance of arriving at SU. Recruiting services can only evaluate so far and international travel doesn’t necessarily fall under that (the same thing happens with a lot of kids in more remote areas of the U.S. too, to be honest).

Cantin is the fourth member of the 2019 class now, and as mentioned, the third in in the last week or two. Offensive tackle Anthony Red committed over the weekend, and defensive tackle Joe Rondi committed late last week. Athlete Courtney Jackson has also been in the fold since April. Numerous other top targets have narrowed their respective lists to include Syracuse lately as well.

Welcome aboard, Geoff! You can check out his highlights below.
