Get to Know Your Orange Man: #71, OL Keaton Darney

Senior year arrives for the Los Angeles transplant.

NCAA Football: Louisville at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Keaton Darney

Position: Offensive line

Year: (Redshirt) Senior

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 284

Hometown: Los Angeles, Calif.

High School: Loyola

2017 stats: Served as SU’s backup center and appeared in 12 games, largely on special teams. Played for significant time against both CCSU and Central Michigan last year.

2018 expectations: Listed as the team’s backup center once again on the pre-spring Syracuse Orange depth chart. Isn’t challenging for a starting role, but is a critical reserve and member of the special teams unit.

How’d he get here?: The walk-on pulled the opposite of my own life decisions, foregoing the sunny skies of Southern California for the frigid winters of Central New York.

What was he rated: N/A. That’s lame, recruiting sites.

Money Quote: Last October, Darney committed a major sin on the sideline, and paid the price.

“On Saturday, cameras found Syracuse offensive lineman Keaton Darney getting an earful for misplacing his helmet during the game against Miami. The penalty for misplacing such an important part of the uniform? Push-ups. That’s right, right there on the sidelines.”

Twitter: @71keaton (but it’s smartly blocked)

Tweets of wonder: Here are those aforementioned push-ups...

What movie would Dino recommend?: Going with a name theme here, we opt for “Manhattan” starring Diane Keaton. The 1979 film was shot in black and white, and pays homage to a lot of New York City (makes sense, since it’s a Woody Allen movie).

Interesting nugget o’Interest: There are several famous Loyola alums. Among the most notable? Former Washington D.C. mayor Anthony A. Williams, director Andy Ackerman, and Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.
