Syracuse football recruiting: 3-star DT Joe Rondi commits to Orange

Some defensive line help coming in from New Jersey.

News had been pretty slow on the recruiting front for the Syracuse Orange — that is, until SU received some good news on Wednesday evening.

Three-star defensive tackle Joe Rondi pledged his commitment to the Orange via Twitter, later telling 247Sports that he loved everything about SU (hey, we’re glad to hear that!). The New Jersey (Wayne) product picked Syracuse over numerous other Northeast offers, including Rutgers, Buffalo and Temple. Nearby Midwest programs like Cincinnati and Kent State were also interested.

Rondi measures 6-foot-4 and weighs 250 pounds and is a top-100 defensive tackle in the class of 2019, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He’s the Orange’s first defensive commitment for 2019, and the second player overall, joining three-star athlete Courtney Jackson.

Defensive tackle is a position of need for Syracuse right now, with zero signees in 2018 and top tackle Chris Slayton graduating after this coming season. Recent recruiting classes have had a tough time with the position as well, so this is a nice start addressing that.

Welcome aboard, Joe! And check out some of his highlights below.
