The Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team is NCAA Tournament-bound once again.
Despite a tough regular season that saw the Orange go just 9-9 overall (and just 1-6 in the ACC), SU heard their name called on Selection Sunday for an at-large bid. Syracuse will face fellow unseeded team the Princeton Tigers in the first round from Newton, Mass.
The Orange were 19th in the RPI, and claimed signature wins over Florida, Loyola and this same Tigers team. Syracuse beat Princeton 17-16 on the road back on March 29. Princeton (12-5 overall) tied for the regular season lead in the Ivy at 6-1, then won the conference tournament over Penn.
SU’s first game of the NCAA Tournament will be on May 11. If they earn a second win against Princeton this season, the Orange will move on to face Boston College in the second round. The Eagles earned the 4-seed after going 19-1 on the year -- the lone loss being against UNC in the ACC Tournament final. BC beat Syracuse on a last-second shot just a couple weeks back, 13-12. They also knocked the Orange out of last year’s NCAA Tournament, with a 21-10 victory.
Good luck to Syracuse this coming weekend!
