The Syracuse Orange track and field teams are preparing for next weekend’s ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Miami, but distance standouts Justyn Knight and Paige Stoner headed west to compete in the Payton Jordan Invitational. The duo tested themselves against a talented field of collegiate and professional runners late last night in Palo Alto.

Stoner demolished the Syracuse school outdoor 5k record with her time of 15:41.26. This was seven seconds faster than Sarah Pagano’s previous record as Stoner took 2nd place in her section of the event. Stoner’s time is the 11th fastest in the NCAA in the event this season as she’s put herself amont the top runners in the 5k and 3k steeple.

Justyn Knight narrowly missed his own Syracuse record as he recorded a time of 13:18.74 on his way to a 3rd place finish in the 5k. Knight’s time is the fastest NCAA time in the country this season and the 10th fastest all-time in the event. This gives Justyn two of the top 10 all-time performances in the event as he continues to add to his impressive resume.

Paige, Justyn and the rest of the Orange will head south next weekend to compete for ACC titles and we’ll have all the results for you.
