The Syracuse Orange football program is still looking for upgrades on defense, especially until we see exactly what the current players on the roster can do in year three of the Tampa-2 scheme. That means recruiting defensive backs, in particular. And Dino Babers’s staff may be in the process of making a key addition there.
On Tuesday, 2019 athlete/safety Cornelius Nunn listed out his top eight schools, and included a commitment date of July 2.

Syracuse made the list along with fellow ACC programs Pitt and Miami, plus Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Nebraska and Auburn. According to 247Sports, Nunn was visited by Orange safeties coach Nick Monroe down in Miami (where he lives) last week. Monroe also visited in April, while Nunn went on an unofficial visit to Syracuse this spring as well.
Nunn is rated a top-600 prospect by 247, while also ranking among the top 55 “athletes” and a top-100 player in Florida. Should he pick SU come July 2, he’d become the second member of the 2019 class, along with fellow three-star Courtney Jackson.
If you believe Miami DieHards’ previous interview with Nunn, this one could be between Syracuse, Miami and Auburn. Stiff competition, clearly, though the Orange have managed to stick around so far.
