The Syracuse Orange spring teams are heading to the championship portions of their seasons, but with yesterday’s 2018 ‘Cuse Awards event honored the best of the Orange this year. The event provides an opportunity for the Syracuse Athletics community to get together and recognize the academic, athletic and community service accomplishment of the student-athletes.

Female Athlete of the Year was Gabriela Knutson (Tennis). Male Athlete of the Year for the 3rd straight year was Justyn Knight (XC/Track).
The Rookie of the Year awards were given to two international basketball players as Digna Stroutmine and Oshae Brissett took home the honors.
Women’s Rowing received the ‘Cuse Cares award with Women’s Soccer earning the Team GPA award. Scholar Athlete awards went to Madeline Davison (W. Cross Country/Track) and Patrick Castle (M. Soccer).
Coaches of the Year were Younes Limam (Tennis) and Dave Reischman (M. Crew)
Top Perfomances of the Year were Gabriela Knutson from Tennis for her two wins against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Justyn Knight for his NCAA Cross-Country Championship.
Football’s victory over the Clemson Tigers took the Best Game award with Women’s Tennis and Men’s Basketball earning Best Team honors.
Play of the year went to Men’s Lacrosse for this Dom Madonna outlet to Ryan Simmons game-winner.

Lindsay Eastwood of Women’s Ice Hockey received the Syracuse 8 Courage Award. This award goes to a student-athlete who has overcome challenges and demonstrated bravery in the face of adversity. Eastwood recovered from a rare autoimmune disease which kept her from competing in her first year at Syracuse.
The Soladay Award which honors achievement in academics, athletics, leadership and service went to Steph Grossi from Women’s Ice Hockey and Colin Bennie from Men’s Cross-Country/Track. The other Soladay nominees were: Laura Hurff (Field Hockey), Courtney Brosnan (W. Soccer), Danielle Delgado (W. Track), Dana Lussier (Cheer), Rachel Caldwell (Rowing), Taylor Gait (W. Lacrosse), Sammy Fernandez (Softball), Belle Sand (Volleyball), Patrick Castle (M. Soccer), Zaire Franklin (Football), Matt Lane (M. Lacrosse), Dominic Santoro (M. Crew), and Michael Lehr (Spirit).
