With limited entries in many events, the Syracuse Orange were not expected to be contenders for the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. However the Orange received strong performances from a number of athletes as they finished with 108 points which was 2nd behind the Florida State Seminoles who totaled 116.
Angelo Goss won his 1st ACC title taking the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.72. Matt Moore finshed 2nd in 13.78 and Richard Floyd grabbed 4th place in 14.12. Goss and Moore teamed with Kashif Miller and Winston Lee to finish 5th in the 4x100m relay. Lee added an 8th place finish in the 100m dash as the sprint/hurdle group produced a strong showing in Miami.
After a disappointing 3rd place finsh in the 1500m, Justyn Knight led a dominating Orange effort in the 5k. Knight’s winning time of 13:58.69 gave him his 11th ACC title and capped his career in the conference’s most dominant distance runner. Iliass Aouani grabbed his second 2nd place finish of the meet when he crossed the line in 14:00. Colin Bennie took 3rd (14:02), Aidan Tooker 4th (also 14:02), Noah Affolder 6th (14:07) and Philo Germano 7th (14:09) as the Orange took 6 of the 8 scoring places.
For the Syracuse women, Paige Stoner came back from her steeplechase win and took 3rd place in the 5000m. The 4x100m relay team of Justice Richardson, Kadejhia Sellers, Imani Clark and Dasia Pressley finished in 9th place. The Orange women scored 21 points to finish 12th in the team competition.
The Orange will be back in action in two weeks for the NCAA Regional Championships where athletes will be hoping to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
