The Syracuse Orange men’s track and field team only scored in one event on the first day of the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. However, the 23 points they scored in the event was enough to push the Orange into the lead of the men’s team competition. Syracuse flexed their distance muscles in the 10k by placing five runners in the top seven.
Iliass Aouani led the way with a 2nd-place finish in 29:59, which put him a second behind the winner Peter Seufer of the Virginia Tech Hokies. Kevin James took 3rd in 30:05 with Philo Germano 5th (30:13), Dom Hockenbury 6th (30:16) and Joe Dragon in 7th (30:17).
In the 1500m heats, Justyn Knight won his heat in 3:49 with Simon Smith taking 3rd in 3:50. Both runners advance to the final on Saturday.
Day two highlights for Syracuse will be the heats of the Women’s 100m hurdles, Men’s 110m hurdles and the 3000m steeplechase finals. The Orange men have four hurdlers in the top eight seeds in the event. Paige Stoner and Aidan Tooker are the top seeds in the steeplechase events.
Coverage of the meet is available on ACC Extra and we’ll have recaps of each day here. While you’re waiting, you can check out Justyn Knight’s conversation with NewsChannel 9’s Carrie Lazarus.
