After Zaire Franklin was the only Syracuse Orange player drafted, a handful of former Orange got calls from other NFL teams as Undrafted Free Agents. Steve Ishmael signed with the Indianapolis Colts, and now we can add Jamar McGloster to the list of Orange in the NFL.

McGloster signed as an UDFA on Saturday with the San Francisco 49er’s, as first reported by Jordan Raanan. In his senior year at Syracuse, McGloster started all 12 games for the Orange, was second in total snaps on the team, and played every offensive snap in the last six games of campaign. The consistency plus the 6’7” 330 lbs body was good enough for new coach Kyle Shanahan to take a flyer on.

The 49ers used their first round pick (9th overall) on Notre Dame tackle Mike McGlinchey, but did not add any other exterior linemen in the draft or UDFA signings. They already had five exterior linemen on the team, so McGloster is an outside shot at making the Kickoff roster, but I’d bet he hangs around on the practice squad this season.

Congratulations Jamar! We look forward to covering your NFL career.
