The Syracuse Orange are in 43rd place (almost on #Brand) in the 1st Winter Sports update of the Learfield Director’s Cup. This update included the following sports: Rifle, Wrestling, Skiing, Women’s Ice Hockey and Indoor Track & Field, so the Orange only had two options for points this time.
Women’s track and field contributed 16.5 points based on Paige Stoner’s All-America performance in the 5,000 meters. Justyn Knight brought the men’s track and field team to a 10th place finish which gave the Orange 66.75 points towards their Director’s Cup total. Last week Knight was also named the ACC Track Performer of the Year for the second straight year.
Syracuse has accumulated 247.25 points so far this year which places them 10th among ACC schools right now. The Stanford Cardinal lead the competition with over 100 points separating them and the 2nd place Penn State Nittany Lions.
The next update comes on April 5 and Syracuse will receive points from both men’s and women’s basketball. This should help move the Orange up into the top 40 overall and also higher in comparison to their fellow conference mates.
