Syracuse vs. TCU Official TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

Time to get Dole some more pizza.

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament First Four-Syracuse vs. Arizona State Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The 11th-seeded Syracuse Orange (21-13, 8-10) made it through the First Four and are now onto the first round and their next opponent, the 6-seed TCU Horned Frogs (21-11, 9-9). Syracuse and TCU haven’t played since 2005, and the Frogs haven’t made the NCAAs since 1998. However, we will see one familiar face on the opposite sideline in former Pitt coach Jamie Dixon. Ugh...

Syracuse and TCU tip off around 9:40p.m. ET on CBS or March Madness Live. (TNIAAM’s West Coast headquarters appreciates the assist on game time, NCAA)

So what does (some of) the TNIAAM staff think will happen in this game?

Andrew Godnick

Syracuse 67, TCU 61

The run will not stop. Tyus Battle made the clutch plays and Oshae Brissett broke out in game one, but TCU poses a different challenge. The difference will be a hot game from deep for Syracuse, as the big three comes thru when it matters most.

TCU 73, Syracuse 66

It’s hard to expect the Orange to hold good offensive teams to season lows and I think playing a 2nd game so quickly is too much for this team to survive. We know that Syracuse is going to fight for 40 minutes, but I don’t know what we’ll see from Chukwu and Howard. To advance to Sunday, Syracuse is going to need to make some shots and avoid the usual long stretch without a bucket.

First, all of you are disloyal for not picking Syracuse. Call me crazy, but I think Syracuse can get going against a so-so TCU defense and do just enough offensively to advance to the Round of 32. The Horned Frogs have been without Fisher for a while now, which helps. Jamie Dixon has had a ton of success against Syracuse but this TCU team isn’t exactly a vintage Pitt roster. Their ability on the offensive boards scares me, but I think Syracuse is going to win this thing.

John Cassillo

Syracuse 70, TCU 66

Consider me a believer. Syracuse’s defense really clamped down on ASU’s shooters and while TCU’s guards are bigger and they have better options in the paint, I think they can hang on against the Frogs. TCU allows teams to take quality shots (shooting 47 percent against them), and that should bode well for SU if they can take advantage and not stay ont the perimeter holding the ball. If we do that and avoid foul trouble, the Orange scrape by for another win.

Now it’s your turn...
