As you’re already aware, the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team has miraculously made it to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. We’re obviously thrilled, but as the final at-large team included in the field, we’re also playing in the First Four.
No. 11 seed Syracuse (20-13) will play against the Arizona State Sun Devils (8-10) in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday night at approximately 9:10 p.m. ET — the last of the four “play-in” games.
The last time these teams faced off was back in 2009, Syracuse beat James Harden and ASU, 78-67 in the NCAA Tournament.
If Syracuse wins that game, they’ll play Jamie Dixon’s TCU Horned Frogs in Detroit on Friday. The NCAA Tournament has a good sense of humor, matching up the Orange with Dixon, their old nemesis at Pitt (when the Panthers had a basketball program).
Should the Orange upset the Frogs, they’ll face the winner of Michigan State/Bucknell. You may remember that the Spartans and SU were slated to face off in the second round back in 2016, before MSU lost to Middle Tennessee. Thus started the Apology Tour that went all the way to the Final Four.
More as the evening goes on and into Monday. SYRACUSE IS DANCING AND WE ARE NOT SORRY.
