Justyn Knight’s 10th ACC title leads Orange

Track and Field: Payton Jordan Invitational Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As he’s done throughout his Syracuse Orange career, Justyn Knight dominated the competition at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Knight swept the 3k and 5k for the 3rd straight year and will finish his Syracuse career with six straight individual ACC indoor titles among his 10 career ACC titles. In case you weren’t sure, Justyn did the math for us as he finished the 3k.

With his two victories, Justyn was named the meet’s track MVP as he helped Syracuse to a 4th-place team finish. The Syracuse women were 11th as the Florida State Seminoles won both the men’s and women’s team titles.

As expected the men were led by the distance and hurdle groups. Philo Germano was 2nd in the 5k with a new personal best in the event. Illias Aouani (5th), Aidan Tooker (7th) and Kevin James (10th) gave the Orange five runners in the top 10. In the 3k, it was Tooker’s turn to finish behind Knight as Aouani grabbed 5th again and James finished 9th.

In the 60m hurdles Matt Moore ran a personal best to grab 2nd place and his time of 7.74 seconds might qualify him for the NCAA Championships. David Gilstrap (4th) and Richard Floyd (6th) also scored for the Orange. Angelo Goss made the final but was disqualified. Goss is in the top 10 in the NCAA in the event and will be competing at the Championships.

Shannon Malone (L) and Paige Stoner (#9 on Right) helped lead the Syracuse women

For the Syracuse women, Paige Stoner and Shannon Malone scored in both the 3k and 5k. Stoner was 3rd in both events while Malone finished 5th in the 3k and 7th in the 5k. Stoner has the 9th fastest 5k time in the country and will compete at the NCAA Championships in the event.

Tia Thevenin was 5th in the 60m hurdles in a season-best time of 8.32 seconds and Khadejia Sellers finished 6th in the 400m dash. Syracuse also gained points from Aviana Goode who finished 6th in the high jump.
