Just when you thought the Syracuse Orange basketball rotation couldn’t get any shorter, Jim Boeheim noted in last night’s post game presser that freshman guard Howard Washington will be done for the season.
Washington suffered the season ending injury to his right leg in practice on Monday.
“He’s got a bad injury,” Boeheim said in the post game (as noted by Mike Waters). “He’ll be out for the year.”
The news comes at a crushing time as Syracuse has been without Matthew Moyer for the last three games — sans the first five minutes against Boston College — as he has been dealing with an ankle injury himself.
With Moyer out, Boeheim had elected to go with a three-guard lineup in stretches when Washington was healthy. Syracuse likely could have used Washington in last night’s defeat to Georgia Tech.
Behind Frank Howard and Tyus Battle in rotation is Braeden Bayer who was a walk-on prior to Geno Thorpe’s departure.
Howard Washington was averaging 1.1 points and 0.6 assists in 6.1 minutes per contest.
