With the Syracuse Orange football program getting ready for the Camping World Bowl, there have only been minimal updates from practice, mostly around who hasn’t been available.
However, things started looking up a bit today, according to Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey:
News/notes from Syracuse’s last pre-bowl practice with media availability:
— Stephen Bailey (@Stephen_Bailey1) December 21, 2018
-TE Ravian Pierce, S Evan Foster returned to full participation
-CB Trill Williams, WR Taj Harris, S Devon Clarke were limited
-DB Antwan Cordy was absent; haven’t seen him at any of the 3 open sessions
Given the ACC’s injury report policy, Dino Babers has understandably been pretty tight-lipped about any ailments, so we don’t know exactly what players are recovering from. Still, great to see that Ravian Pierce and Evan Foster have returned to full participation as both will play significant roles in the upcoming game against West Virginia.
The “limited” names potentially leave some cause for concern, though Bailey shared that Trill Williams is on the upswing, while Taj Harris also appears unlikely to miss the bowl game based on his route-running at Friday’s practice.
Cordy’s status, on the other hand, remains a mystery. The senior safety has missed all of the open bowl practices and the final two games of the season due to a personal situation. His Twitter feed hasn’t posted any updates since his absence began. First off, we hope everything’s okay on his end. And second, hopefully he can suit up for a bowl game. He’s one of the many Scott Shafer recruits on the team who’s sat through quite a few losing seasons and deserves to suit up for a bowl game now that the program’s made one.
These practices are critical for the younger players, in particular, and it’s great to see nearly everyone healthy and able to take advantage. While some of Syracuse’s younger players have been getting in-game reps all season, plenty more haven’t. The ability to jump in here and start implementing 2019 elements as well with underclassmen is a huge advantage that could pay dividends next year as playmakers shuffle from this year to next.
Hopefully the rest of the status questions are cleared up between now and kickoff. Reminder: just a week ‘til kickoff!
