Dawson could make a big impact on either side of the ball for the Orange.

Welcome to college football’s early signing period for the class of 2019! The Syracuse Orange will be adding new recruits from Wednesday to (maybe) Friday. As each player signs, we’ll be posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Next up? Versatile athlete Cooper Dawson, who has experience on both sides of the football and who delivered a wonderful commitment announcement

Position: Defensive end/Tight End

Stats: 6’5”, 250 lbs.

Commitment date: TODAY!

Ratings: Three stars all around!

Other Offers: Former National Champion Clemson, Former Faux National Champion UCF. Also, UCLA and Virginia.

Dino’s projected nickname: “FBI. I’m Special Agent Dale Cooper.”

Highlights:

Player outlook: Dawson is a talented player at both tight end and defensive end, both positions where he could make a big impact for Syracuse. On offense, Ravian Pierce is set to graduate, leaving Aaron Hackett and Gabe Horan as the only true tight ends on the roster (unless you want to count Chris Elmore as a tight end). Dawson could provide crucial depth or even make a run for the starting job, especially seeing as Horan is a good candidate at 6-foot-6, 260 pounds to bulk up and slide into an offensive line that’s graduating three starters, including both tackles.

On the other side, three of the four defensive ends on the two deep will be in their final season of eligibility in 2019. Caleb Okechukwu will likely step up into one of those spots in 2020 and Dawson would be a stellar candidate to compete for one of the other two.
