A step in the right direction for the Orange.

The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team moved up one spot in the latest AP Poll, to number 15; the Orange started the season 2-0, with wins over Eastern Washington and Morehead State. Syracuse didn’t look its best in their most recent win, but the voters thought they were worthy of a small promotion.

Syracuse is one of seven ACC teams to find themselves in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll. Four of those seven ACC teams rank ahead of the Orange, and they are Duke (1), Virginia (4), North Carolina (7), and Florida State (14). The two teams who sit below Syracuse are Virginia Tech (16), and Clemson (19).

With the ACC as dominant as ever, the Orange will surely be looking to add some quality wins to their resume in conference-play this season. ACC play doesn’t begin until January 5 for the Orange, when they face Notre Dame; however, Syracuse will still be looking to climb the rankings starting with their matchup against UConn this Thursday.

Syracuse can potentially have their first ranked opponent this Friday against No. 13 Oregon in the 2k Sports Classic Championship in Madison Square Garden. It’s important for the Orange to get as many quality wins as possible early in the season, and bringing home the 2k Sports Classic Championship would be a good start.
