Syracuse vs. Wake Forest: Orange wearing all-white uniforms

No chrome masks this time, however...

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Boston College Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome back to our weekly chronicle of what the Syracuse Orange football team will be wearing on the field for their upcoming game. While this remains important, it’s certainly less so now that we’re winning. That’s a good thing.

Anyway: Syracuse heads down to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday. To commemorate the occasion, they’ll be wearing their all-white uniform set.

Syracuse hasn’t worn all-white since last year’s game at Miami (a loss), though in that one they had the altered orange chrome facemask. As for the completely white uniform set here, it was last seen in the win at Boston College in 2016. The all-whites are actually 3-3 since the start of 2014, with one of those coming at Wake Forest in 2014 (hey, I was there!).

As this is the Orange’s fourth road game of the season, it’s also the fourth time they’ve worn white jerseys — going 1-2 in those contests (win over WMU, losses to Clemson and Pitt). The only other time we saw the white helmets was in September’s win over Florida State. SU only wore white pants one other time as well: the loss to Clemson.

Since the start of 2014, SU’s white helmets are 5-7 overall, with one consecutive victory (see above). White jerseys are 5-16 and riding a two-game losing streak and SU’s lost eight of nine wearing them. The Orange have also lost three straight wearing white pants, dating back to a 2016 home loss against FSU. They’re just 3-11 overall in white pants.
