Syracuse Football finally returns to the top 25

For the 1st time since 2001 the Orange are ranked

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse Orange football fans have a lot to celebrate this weekend. After the Orange clinched bowl eligibility with a win over the N.C. State Wolfpack Syracuse jumped up 20 spots to 24th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 22nd in the AP Poll. This is the 1st time since 2001 that Syracuse has been nationally ranked.

In the coaches poll, the Orange jumped into the polls and landed one spot ahead of the Boston College Eagles. Fellow ACC surprise team the Virginia Cavaliers find themselves in 22nd in the rankings as the next tier of teams behind the 2nd ranked Clemson Tigers are exactly the ones no one expected before the season.

The AP poll puts Syracuse one spot ahead of Virginia and two spots ahead of BC. Like we’ve been preaching, it’s not always about the quality of the wins but simply winning will get you recognized by the voters.

Syracuse will look to continue to move up when they travel to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. We hope many college sports fans will be confused when they see a number next to Syracuse on the scores tickers because no it’s not an early season ACC Basketball game scrolling across your screen.
