Syracuse football opens as 1-point favorite over NC State

Despite the Wolfpack coming in ranked, Vegas likes Syracuse by a fraction in the early part of the week.

The Syracuse Orange may have gotten away with a win by the skin of their teeth on Saturday, but Las Vegas isn’t necessarily holding that against them come — yet, anyway.

Early betting lines have appeared for Syracuse’s home date with the N.C. State Wolfpack, and the Orange open as 1-point favorites, according to VegasInsider. The Pack just lost by 34 to a Clemson team Syracuse nearly upset on the road, so maybe that has something to do with it, even though NCSU is ranked.

Also worth noting Syracuse is just 1-10 all-time against NC State, with the lone win coming in 2013 (when the Wolfpack were 3-9 and SU went to the Texas Bowl).

But back to this year’s matchup: Syracuse is 4-3 against the spread this year, according to OddsShark, and NC State is 3-3 (5-1 overall, however). It’s unlikely there’s a difference between a win against the spread and an outright win this week, assuming the line stays around the same range in one direction or the other.

It’s early, but are you daring to put some money down on ‘Cuse as a slight home favorite right now? Also of note, Dino Babers has scored a big upset at the Dome for two straight years. SU is likely a favorite against Louisville later in the year, so this is the last chance to replicate the feat for a third consecutive season.
