Syracuse football: This Jordan Brand uniform concept is what we all want

Listen: I think it’s a well beaten horse here at TNIAAM that we have some problems with the current Syracuse-Nike arrangement. There’s not enough merchandise available of what we want. The numbering font is bad. We want our damn script.

A new twitter account seems to feel all this pain. With yesterday’s news that Syracuse and Nike are in “advanced” discussions, the Orange Uniform Guard imagined what a Jordan Brand Syracuse Orange football uniform would look like. And holy Foodlion is it gorgeous.

These are pretty much what everyone has been calling for anytime we do a ‘Cuse uniform post; classic color combos matching the Donovan McNabb era designs with the modern Nike/Jordan touches.

Right now, Jordan Brand backs four different Power Five programs: North Carolina, Oklahoma, Florida and Michigan. Syracuse being included in that kind of mix would definitely increase the clout of the program in the football, and basketball would make perfect sense with Carmelo Anthony already a member of the Jordan Athlete family. The Orange also have additional ties to Jordan Brand given former SU big man Rakeem Christmas’s engagement to Michael’s daughter, Jasmine, who is a Syracuse alum herself.

The one potential counterpoint is that they’re not flashy enough for today’s game, and we don’t necessarily have the #BRAND anymore to avoid looking loud on television. Only a handful of programs have basic uniforms anymore, and all of those are contending for national titles every year, or are Army (makes sense) and Boston College (woof).
