Music, in its various forms and genres, is very much a part of most people’s lives and of course serves as an important tool of human expression. For basketball players specifically, most tend to be competitive and emulate aggressive tendencies on the court, so it makes sense that they would be drawn to a genre such as rap and hip-hop.
That’s at least the case for the guys on the Syracuse Orange basketball team as all of them mentioned hip-hop as their go-to for music. The entire Syracuse backcourt made mention of Gunna as one of their favorites.
“My favorite artist of all time is Meek (Mill), I’ll never change that but right now I would say Gunna,” Jalen Carey said. “Whoever is watching this or listening to this, ‘Oh Okay’ by Gunna, Lil Baby and Young Thug is a must. If you don’t have it then then you’re not listening to music.”
“More like hip-hop, Lil Baby, Drake, Gunna just like the new school people,” Howard Washington said of his music preference and artists he’s currently listening to.
“Yeah Drake, Lil Wayne, any rap artist I like a lot, J Cole all day,” Buddy Boeheim shared. “Drip Harder was tough, I like Lil Baby a lot. Quavo just dropped a(n) album, haven’t gave it a listen yet but I will for sure.”
“Right now a lot of hometown guys, you know, Shy Glizzy he just dropped his album. That’s all I’ve been playing, that’s kind of all I’m listening to right now,” Frank Howard said. “(The) Quavo album, Gunna album, so it’s been a good week of music, got a lot to listen to.”
It’s not as if all the guys are only into hip-hop though. Tyus Battle said that he listens to just about all genres, even noting that he listens to Coldplay if it’s right.
“Drake, Lil Baby, Gunna. I listen to everything. I listen to Coldplay if I’m in the mood for it. I mean I listen to a little bit of everything,” Tyus said. “I mean there’s a lot of new music right now. Lil Baby and Gunna just came out with an album together. I think Quavo just dropped something yesterday, Shy Glizzy dropped something either yesterday or today so it’s a lot of new music out.”
Marek Dolezaj also said he listens to almost all genres of music but made mention that Drake and Kendrick Lamar are his two favorite artists. Elijah Hughes also mentioned Drake as one of his favorite artists on top of Lil Baby, Young Thug and Future. Robert Braswell noted that Future is his favorite artist.
As for the big men?
“I like Jay-Z a lot, but now he’s kind of an old school guy but I kind of go with Migos,” Bourama Sidibe said.
“All-time is Tupac, man. I love Tupac,” Paschal Chukwu said of his favorite artist. He said he’s also rocking with Tha Carter V and listens to Lil Wayne frequently.
There you have it. Just in case you were wondering.
