Breaking: Syracuse basketball lands 3-star combo guard Joe Girard III (NY)

The most prized recruit in upstate New York’s 2019 class has chosen the Orange over Duke, Notre Dame, and 3 others.

New York State’s all-time leading scorer, 2019 3-star combo guard Joe Girard III has announced his plans to attend Syracuse at a grand event at The Queensbury Hotel Sunday night. Girard had announced that Syracuse, Duke, Notre Dame, Boston College, Penn State and Michigan had made his final six schools.

In the 2017-2018 season, Girard became the state’s leading scorer, was named the Gatorade New York State Player of the Year, averaging 50 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists per game as a junior. In addition to his talent on the court, Girard was also a Division I-talent on the gridiron, securing offers from Tulane and UMASS before focusing on basketball.

Girard joins 3-star center Jon Bol Ajak (PA) and 4-star guard Brycen Goodine (RI) as the third commit in Jim Boeheim’s 2019 class.
