Mangakahia was named the Naismith Player of the Week on Tuesday, according to a press release. The Naismith Trophy is awarded to College Basketball’s top performer at the end of each season, and it sounds like Mangakahia’s 44 points versus Georgia Tech last Thursday boosted her name up the list.
Tiana has been a star for the Orange this season. The Australian and Hutchinson Community College transfer has dished out double-digit assists in 11 of her 17 games played, and she currently leads the nation with 10.4 dimes per game. She also has recorded nines double-doubles this season and ranks 11th in the country in that regard.
Mangakahia’s performance versus Georgia Tech was chased with five points, 13 assists, six rebounds, and four steals in the Orange’s upset win over Florida State on Sunday. It was the Orange’s first win over a ranked opponent this season and its second versus conference opponents in 2017-2018.
The Orange are currently 14-3 (2-2 ACC) and face NC State in its next contest on Sunday. Tip versus the Wolfpack is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on January 14 at the Carrier Dome.
