The Syracuse Orange’s 2018 football season technically starts in just over one month. As announced today on Twitter, SU’s spring practice will begin on March 3.

As indicated above, there will be 14 practice sessions, plus the spring game, which takes place on Friday, April 13 this year. The team has two scrimmages in those practices as well — on Saturday, March 24 and Saturday, April 7.
Though Dino Babers has typically played things very close to the vest around practices, there does seem to be some sort of attendance option available for those that request it, according to that image. One would assume that’s not just directed at the media, especially since it directs inquiries to the recruiting office.
The most interesting thing here, however, is the Friday spring game date. That’s new for the Orange, who’ve largely done things on Saturday or Sunday in years’ past. Spring weekends — even in Syracuse -- have proven tough, at times, to get fans to the Carrier Dome. That probably won’t be any easier on a Friday night, especially for out-of-town fans interested in attending. But there’s the potential that this move means a better TV/streaming spot for the game. We can hope, anyway...
We’ll dive into the big questions around spring practice come February. Of note will be Eric Dungey’s recovery, how the young wide receivers start to come along, and the recruits that arrived in January (among other larger narratives).
What do you think of the Friday date? Does that make you any more or less likely to attend? Curious from a local perspective if that makes a major difference at all.
