A Syracuse Olympic sports update

A week off for SU hoops means we can shine the spotlight on other teams

We have two more days before the next Syracuse Orange men’s basketball game, so this is a good opportunity to get you caught up on some of the other Syracuse athletes and teams.

Last week Mo Adams became the latest Syracuse Orange soccer player to be drafted in the 1st round of the MLS Draft. Mo was selected 10th by the Chicago Fire and that makes four straight drafts with a 1st round pick for Coach Ian McIntyre’s squad.

One of those previous 1st round selections is Alex Bono who was invited to the US Soccer National Team camp. Bono is also gearing up to help the Toronto FC defend their MLS crown when that season begins later this spring.

The Orange women’s hockey team had a tough Fall but has found themselves in third place in the CHA standings after a weekend sweep of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Syracuse will host CHA leader Mercyhurst in a two-game series next weekend with an opportunity to tie them in the standings.

Tennis started their season on Sunday with a 7-0 blanking of the Niagara Purple Eagles. Syracuse is led by Gabriela Knutson who ranked 17th in the country at the end of the Fall. The Orange will be back in action next weekend as they host Colgate and Columbia at Drumlins.

It was a successful weekend on the track for the Orange at Cornell. Five Syracuse athletes claimed 1st place finishes:

  • Angelo Goss and Danielle Delgado in the 60m hurdles
  • Kashif Miller and Justice Richardson in the 60m dash
  • Aidan Tooker in the 1000m run

The Syracuse track and field teams will be heading to Boston and NYC next weekend to compete. We’ll see if anyone else is ready to add their name to the growing list of Syracuse Sub 4-Minute Milers.
