Justyn Knight named to The Bowerman watch list

Justyn becomes the 2nd Syracuse athlete to earn this recognition

Track and Field: Payton Jordan Invitational Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse Orange standout Justyn Knight has received a lot of accolades during his career and on Tuesday afternoon he added a new one. Knight was named to the Preseason Watch List for The Bowerman, which is presented annually to the best men’s and women’s NCAA track and field athletes. He becomes the second Syracuse Track and Field athlete to appear on The Bowerman watch list joining Jarret Eaton who was recognized in 2012.

Coming off his win at the NCAA Cross-Country Championships, Justyn will be one of the favorites in either (or both) the 3k and 5k indoors as well as the 5k outdoors. He hasn’t run more than one event at any previous NCAA Championships which will put him at a disadvantage in this competition which tends to reward those with multiple titles.

The last male distance runner to win the award was Justyn’s fellow Canadian Cam Levins of Southern Utah back in 2012. Last year Justyn was 2nd in the 3k at the NCAA Indoor Championships and during the outdoor season he ran the 4th fastest collegiate 5k ever. Expect Justyn to make his indoor debut at the end of the month and we’ll keep you updated when the next watch list for The Bowerman is released in February..
