Now that the college football season is underway, we’re going to keep tabs on what those in the media are saying about the Syracuse Orange. We’ll round up some of the discussion points involving the Orange and bring them to you. So let’s dive into the post-week one talking points.
- ESPN has updated their ACC Power Rankings and Syracuse holds steady at 12th ahead of the Boston College Eagles and Virginia Cavaliers. Brent Axe over at syracuse.com has the Orange 12th as well. If the Orange can hold serve the next two weeks, they will certainly move up.
- The Athletic moved Syracuse up one spot in the All-American 130 rankings, from 67th to 66th. No justification there, so we’ll take it.
- Individual performances earned three Syracuse players spots on Pro Football Focus’s ACC Team of the Week -- including Eric Dungey and Steve Ishmael, who were each the best at their respective positions.

Pretty impressive for Dungey to land the top QB grade after the performances turned in by Lamar Jackson and TaQuon Marshall. It’s only one week, but I’m sure everyone had Syracuse and Boston College with the top wide receiver grades in the ACC right? Something tells me that Ishmael might not be the last Orange WR to earn this honor this season.

Chris Slayton’s play in the interior of the Orange defense is something to keep an eye on next week. We’ll see if he can help Syracuse take advantage of a Middle Tennessee State offensive line which allowed Vanderbilt to get 5 sacks on Saturday.
