Syracuse vs NC State Official TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

We’ve been talking about this game all week, so what’s gong to happen?

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Louisiana State Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange (2-2) are on the road for a second straight week, heading down to Raleigh to take on the NC State Wolfpack (3-1). State’s coming off a big victory over FSU and is hungry to keep up that momentum. Despite the loss to LSU, we’re feeling inspired ourselves — at least as much as we can be at .500.

Syracuse and NC State will kick off at 12:20 p.m. ET on your local RSN (you can see the full affiliate list here).

So what does the TNIAAM staff think will happen in this game?

Andy Pregler

NC State 20, Syracuse 17

I want to say that the Orange have the ability to catch NC State coming home high from a big win (a la Mississippi State last week) but if the Orange are really hurt up front, stopping this top 7 is going to be really hard since we've seen the Orange can't really run the ball on good defenses. If the defense plays the way it has, the Orange will be in this until the end, but they're going to need a heroic effort from the offensive line or Eric Dungey in order to give the defense enough rest to continually shut NC State out.

If the Orange can replicate their second half offensive performance for last week, they can steal a big win in Raleigh. The Wolfpack's front seven won't make it easy so look for Syracuse to put Eric Dungey on the move to create time for him to throw. A key matchup in this game might be Parris Bennett taking on Jaylen Samuels who has accounted for seven touchdowns already this season. Syracuse needs to play a clean game on Saturday and look to catch NC State looking ahead to next Thursday night's game against Louisville.

Upset time! NC State is the hottest team in the conference, but Syracuse really did show some promise last week. I'm calling the upset because SU's defense will shutdown the dink and dunk Wolfpack offense and Dungey will lead the offense with confidence. Sean Riley will not drop a ball in the endzone (I'm not bitter).

This a huge opportunity for the Orange to move up the ACC latter, but until the offensive line finds a way to get some push up front, they won't be able to make that climb. Syracuse will need to get the ball out of Dungey's hands quickly to keep it close. Defensively, NC State wants to test Syracuse's top-25 run defense this week. Parris Bennett, Zaire Franklin and SU's defensive line should make it interesting. I want to pick the Orange but they'll need to show they that they can win on the road before I put any stock into them.

Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I do believe that Syracuse’s efforts against LSU were a sign of an upswing. The Orange defense has faced quality opponents and performed admirably. Their aggressive approach has begun to change the momentum of games. That should set up the SU offense to score some points — we just have to hope it’s a bit more consistently than normal. I’m expecting this one to come down to the final whistle.

Now it’s your turn...
