Tomorrow’s another Saturday of college football. And despite your negative feelings about last weekend’s game, there are still 10 more to go. Nearly anything can happen.
The Syracuse Orange (1-1) kick off against the Central Michigan Chippewas at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday -- prime drinking time for most.
So whether you’re drinking before, during or after Saturday’s game against CMU, see below for three beer picks that are worth your while. You probably won’t be able to acquire at least one of these. Sorry in advance.
Central Michigan Beer Pick: Bell’s Brewery Black Note Stout
Bell’s is virtually everywhere at this point, but that shouldn’t take anything away from Central Michigan, who’s lucky enough to be a couple hours from Kalamazoo — home of Bell’s Brewery. If you wind up with the sought-after barrel-aged stout, put some age on it (and also don’t bring the hefty drink to any tailgate). At a rich 10.8 percent ABV, the bourbon, chocolate and malt notes mature with time and turn Black Note into an increasingly rewarding experience with each sip.

Syracuse Beer Pick: Eastwood Brewing Co. C-4 IPA
Over near East Syracuse, you’ll find the brewery formerly known as Double Barrel. So the results are far from green; you’re getting a veteran experience when you try out any of their various ales. However, the C-4 takes the cake with four different hop varietals and some Citra that should greet you right on the nose. If dark beers are more your scene, you’ll find plenty of those on right now as well.
Los Angeles-Area Beer Pick: Beachwood Brewing Co. Thrillseeker
Just like it’s pretty tough for me to get the beers listed above, it’s going to be tough for any of you to get the beers listed in this section each week. But it would be irresponsible to celebrate local beers without highlighting some of the best from the exploding L.A. scene.
In a market where East Coast IPAs have become all the rage, Beachwood’s stood pretty firm as one of Los Angeles’s remaining West Coast-styled stalwarts. Thrillseeker, their staple, is what really started it all for them. When fresh, it features Simcoe hops right up front, giving you that tropical overtone you’d expect. It finishes with some dry bitterness and fruity notes that bring you right back for more. Just describing it makes me want to go grab a growler down in Long Beach.
