Syracuse fall Olympic sports update: Field hockey moves up to No. 3 in nation

The fall season is in full swing, so let’s catch up

Hey Syracuse Orange fans. Just thought we’d pop in an Orange Olympic Sports update. I know all of you have been following Steve’s coverage of Men’s Soccer and my SUXC updates, but let’s get you caught up on the other teams in action.

Field Hockey

The 3rd ranked Orange have won seven consecutive games to start the season. Oh and did we mention that they haven’t allowed a goal yet? That’s right, Syracuse has out-scored their opponents 24-0 so far in 2017.

Carolin Hoffman and Elaine Carey lead the Orange with 11 points on the season while Borg van der Velde has started every game in goal. Field hockey’s next game is Saturday morning at home against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Women’s Soccer

The Orange are off to a strong 5-2-1 start as they prepare to begin ACC play on Thursday September 21st when they host the 8th ranked Wake Forest squad. Senior goalie Courtney Brosnan is currently tied for the school record in wins with 29 and stands fourth in shutouts after recording her 18th career shutout in win over Harvard. Sydney Brackett is leading the Syracuse offense with four goals on the year.

Volleyball

The Syracuse Volleyball squad got off to a slow start, but last weekend they swept three matches at the Dartmouth Tournament to move to 6-4 on the season. This weekend the Orange head to Hofstra as they prepare to start ACC play the following week.

Santita Ebangwese leads the Orange in kills and blocks while Belle Sand paces the defense with 129 digs on the season.

Good luck to these teams as they continue to push for ACC Championships and NCAA post-season berths.
