Typically the preseason college football polls are a time for Syracuse Orange fans to survey which top 25 opponents we’ll be facing this fall. However, this year, something curious happened when the Coaches Poll was released...
wut.
Now, we can try to be optimistic around here, and we also have a lot of faith in Dino Babers as Syracuse head coach. But receiving votes in the polls? That hasn’t occurred since after the huge West Virginia upset in 2011 (and we were removed from the “also receiving votes” category the following week).
We’ll be putting some more investigative work into who may have logged votes for the Orange later today. But in the meantime, it’s worth running down the Orange opponents included in the top 25.
No. 3 Florida State Seminoles
No. 5 Clemson Tigers
No. 12 LSU Tigers
No. 17 Louisville Cardinals
No. 18 Miami Hurricanes
Also receiving votes: Pittsburgh (45), NC State (39)
Notably, Syracuse was one of 10 ACC programs to receive votes in the poll. We also received more votes than UCLA, Toledo (the MAC favorite) and Colorado State (MWC title contender).
Obviously these polls mean very little, but it’s fun to be included early. To whichever coach(es) decided to list us here, we thank you for the thought.
