Syracuse football recruiting: 4-star OT Qadir White commits to Orange

WHAT is this new reality we inhabit?

NCAA Football: Virginia Tech at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Just a week ago, we were wondering if four-star New York (Bronx) offensive tackle was leaning toward committing to the Syracuse Orange football program.

Wonder no more, though. White will stay in-state, picking Syracuse over the Auburn Tigers and Maryland Terrapins.

Any four-star recruit is significant, but for the Orange, this is huge. Offensive line’s a trouble spot at the moment, and SU could use all the help it can get. White’s the No. 320 player in the 247Sports composite rankings right now, while 247 has him all the way up at 164th themselves. The 6-foot-7, 334-pound lineman has clearly impressed at Cardinal Hayes given his size already. He’s also one of the top three New York prospects this year, and one of the top 25-30 offensive tackles in the entire class of 2018.

White’s not the only four-star offensive lineman in this class, either. He joins Detroit center Tyrone Sampson there. Between the two of them, that’s a formidable group coming to SU to help a position group that needs the reinforcements.

That makes 15 players for Syracuse in this class so far, including 12 on the offensive side of the football. Most of these players are nationally ranked as well, making it the best Orange recruiting class I can remember (so far, anyway).

While recruiting class rankings don’t matter this early, it’s worth noting that Syracuse would be in the top 40 or so with White’s addition. Given that it’s a class stressing quality over just pure volume (unlike some other schools that high), it’s a very good sign for Dino Babers’s abilities.

Highlights for White below. Get excited. We’re in a strange new world that I’m personally happy to be a part of.
