Name: Cole Murphy
Weight: 200 lbs.
Hometown: Castaic, Calif.
High School: Valencia High School
2016 Stats: He was 4-for-4 on field goals to start the season for the Syracuse Orange, and then went 6-for-14 the rest of the year. After kicking very well his freshman and sophomore year, it seemed Murphy was in his own head last year.
2017 Projections: He’s become the biggest special teams question mark. He was a great kicker for two years and well below par last year. With Sterling Hofrichter chasing the kicker spot as well, Murphy will have to get it together if he wants to see the field.
How'd He Get Here?: Overtures from warmer schools like Cal Poly-SLO and (I guess) Iowa came his way, but Murphy chose to walk on at SU. He later earned a scholarship.
What'd Recruiting Sites Say?: They were very quiet. Silent, even.
Tweets Of Wonder: This guy was wrong about that roster move, since Murphy remained the kicker last year.
Cole Murphy may be done as Syracuse's field goal kicker. Still think SU should've gone for it.— John Cassillo (@JohnCassillo) November 5, 2016
What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: Cole’s long-lost uncle Eddie Murphy stars in Daddy Day Care. A family fun film where stay at home dads start their own day care. The 2003 film could have starred a young Cole, but Eddie got the spotlight.
Interesting Nugget O’Interest: He made the 2016 Lou Groza Award Watch List, which goes to the best kicker in the nation. He fell very short of those expectations, but has a senior season to bounce back.
Let's Get A Good Look Atcha: Throwing it back to the Murphy glory days! In 2015 he dropped this beauty to finish the season a winner (and send Scott Shafer out on top).
