Get to know your Orange man: #51, DE JaQuwan Nelson

Biggest question: Will we see him on the team at all?

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Name: JaQuwan Nelson

Position: Defensive end

Year: (Redshirt) Freshman

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 235 lbs.

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

High School: Fort Lauderdale

2016 stats: Nelson redshirted -- which is pretty miraculous when you consider the injuries the Syracuse Orange sustained on the defensive side of the ball.

2017 projections: TBD. Nelson likely would be competing for playing time right now, but instead he’s continuing to serve a suspension from team activities following his arrest for robbery. No word on if/when he returns.

How’d he get here?: At one point he was a Miami Hurricanes commit, then decommitted and later picked the Orange. We held on toward the end, despite interest from Georgia, Kentucky and others.

What did recruiting sites say?: Three stars from the whole gang.

Twitter feed: @JaQuwanNelson (though he hasn’t tweeted since last August)

Tweets of wonder: I’m pretty positive I tweeted the same thing on the same day last year.

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: Opting with 2007’s Blades of Glory here. Craig T. Nelson was the coach, and after the robbery incident, JaQuwan could probably use some guidance and coaching to make up for what transpired.

Interesting nugget of interest: Nelson is one a ton of Florida kids on the roster (about a quarter of the total), and he makes up what’s a sizeable South Florida group within that larger Sunshine State contingent,
