The Orange are making some noise!
Four star 2018 recruit Darius Bazley has committed to joining the Syracuse Orange, he has told Scout. Bazley was being recruited by Florida, Georgetown, Louisville, and others, but the versatile wing decided to bring his talents up north to the Carrier Dome.
ESPN has Bazley ranked 32nd in their top 100 for the class of 2018, a great asset to an Orange team in search for top recruits. Bazley previously committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes, but the desire for a “bigger stage” is what led him to joining coach Jim Boeheim’s team instead.
247Sports lists Bazley at currently 6’9” and 200 pounds, a body type that can wreak havoc in coach Boeheim’s 2-3 zone. His versatility will allow him to get easy looks in transition, something any offense would love to see from their younger players.
Bazley is an above average rebounder, but filling out his body will help him get even better when crashing the glass. His lanky body allows him to get shots off above defenders, but improving his outside shot will be needed if he wants to become a focal point of coach Boeheim’s offense.
The commitment of Syracuse’s basketball program stood out to Bazley, and hopefully his commitment can add to the history that has already been made in the Carrier Dome.
“To me, it was like no other,” Bazley told scout. "A big part of the commitment was the coaches. I felt really comfortable around them and then felt really comfortable around me. Everything I've played for in basketball, I've been extremely cool with the coaches. Not only with basketball but as far as life.”
Bazley’s ability to get to the rim, not only in transition but in the half-court, will help him take advantage of opposing defenses. A more dominant body and consistent jump shot is what Bazley needs to take his game to the next level, but his current skill set is a good place to start for the young player.
Bailey won’t be helping the Orange next year, but the wait for his arrival isn't long, so Syracuse fans should be getting excited for their new Orangeman’s arrival.
Welcome to Syracuse, Darius Bazley!
