Get to know your Orange Man: #16, CB Carl Jones

The sophomore defensive back should play a solid role on special teams

NCAA Football: Colgate at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Carl Jones

Position: Corner back

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6’1"

Weight: 177 lbs.

Hometown: Twinsburg, Ohio

High School: St. Edward

2016 stats: He was a reserve defensive back, but he played a large role on the hands team. He appeared in all 12 games and made three stops on kickoff and punt returns.

2017 projections: He should play a similar role this year. He should be a key contributor to the Orange special teams unit. Do not expect to see his jersey on the field for defensive action unless there are a few injuries.

How’d he get here?: After only receiving offers from Army and Air Force, Jones committed to Syracuse in December of his senior year. He was recruited as an athlete, as he played both wide receiver and corner back in high school.

What’d recruiting sites say?: 3-stars all around.

Twitter feed: @Jones11_

Tweets of wonder: I feel the same way.

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: The initial Rocky, released in 1976 stars Sylvester Stallone as Rocky and Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed. If you haven’t watched this movie, then you need to do so immediately.

Interesting nugget o’interest: He was actually high school teammates with Syracuse sophomore linebacker Troy Henderson.
