Get to Know Your Orange Man: #17, WR Jamal Custis

New, 1 comment

Okay, is THIS the year?

NCAA Football: Virginia Tech at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Jamal Custis

Position: Wide receiver

Year: (Redshirt) Junior

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 227 lbs.

Hometown: Philadelphia

High School: Neumann-Goretti High School

2016 stats: Redshirted after suffering an ankle sprain. But in 2015, he scored his only career touchdown to-date.

2017 projections: He’s set to start at outside receiver opposite Steve Ishmael. Custis has yet to really spend a ton of time on the field in this offense, but everyone’s pretty high on his potential given his size and athleticism. You should see him used extensively in the red zone (a potential game-changer for an offense that struggled to convert for six last year). A conservative estimate of 45 catches, 550 yards and five touchdowns seems reasonable.

How’d he get here?: UConn, Pitt and Rutgers all offered, but he rightfully said no thanks to those schools, and picked the Syracuse Orange.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Threes from everybody.

Twitter feed: @JCustis17

Tweets of wonder: IT’S LIT.

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: Notorious, the 2009 Notorious B.I.G. biopic, starring Jamal Woolard in the titular role. He would reprise the portrayal in 2017’s 2Pac biopic All Eyez On Me as well.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Custis was a star basketball player in high school, and drew college interest for that sport as well. He briefly considered attempting to make the Orange hoops team as well.

Let’s get a good look atcha:
