Syracuse football Fan Fest set for August 12

A tradition unlike any other...

Before the Syracuse Orange football season gets started, fans will get one opportunity to see the team up close and personal. Per an announcement today, ‘Cuse Fan Fest will take place on August 12 this year.

The event kicks off at 2 p.m., but you can start parking at Manley Field House at 1. Some of the highlights, for those that plan to attend (or even those that don’t):

“Fun Zone”

It’ll feature an all-sports skills clinic with SU Olympic sports student athletes first and foremost, which is a cool opportunity to showcase the Orange’s successful athletes aside from football and basketball. There’s also a photo booth, caricature artist and balloon-animal makers, plus sponsor booths for free, branded schwag.

Notably absent are #InflatableJumpies, which have not made an appearance since 2015.

Also, for the fellow downstaters among us, Fun Zone probably evokes memories of the Farmingdale, N.Y. amusement park which had a terribly catchy jingle that I now can’t shake from my head. Can’t find the commercial on YouTube, but “PUT YOUR FAMILY IN THE FUUUUUUUN ZONE.”

Actual football, sort of

After two hours in the “Fun Zone,” Dino Babers and the football team will be going through drills at SU Soccer Stadium. Some lucky fans will be selected for a “Fans vs. Football” skills challenge where they can go head-to-head with Orange players in a variety of drills like: extra-point/field-goal kicking, passing accuracy challenge, punt-catching competition and the 40-yard dash.

There will be unique rules to even the playing field, according to SU. But I’m not sure Babers will accept anything but his Orange players going fast.

Meet and greet

This is what a lot of folks are probably here for. Dino will address fans after the challenges, and will likely have you ready to run through a brick wall. After that, you’ll get all the selfies you want with the players.

Obviously I won’t be in attendance, but if you have anything interest to share coming out of Fan Fest this year, feel free to share!
