Looks like last year’s work paid off.

Former Syracuse Orange guard Tyler Ennis received a golden opportunity last season after being traded from the Houston Rockets to the Los Angeles Lakers. The tanking Lakers were willing to give minutes to anyone, and one of those “anyones” was Ennis, who was earning nearly 30 minutes per game by year’s end.

It winds up that the big minutes and hard work paid off for the former SU standout in the form of a contract.

Internally, Orange fans speculated that the numbers Ennis put up last year were enough to result in a deal, and it’s nice to see that come to fruition. Once he got rolling with the Lakers in 2017, he became a reliable double-digit scorer more often than not. In April, he averaged over 11 points per game and nearly four assists per as well.

As ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported, he’s on a one-year minimum deal with a team option for year two. That team option is key for L.A., a team that’s amassing short-term assets with an eye on next summer (while still looking better this season too).

Congrats to Tyler, who’s took the long way around toward sticking with an NBA team, but may have finally found a fit withe Lakers (at least for now).
