The Syracuse Orange have been losing defensive linemen with some unfortunate frequency this offseason. Wednesday added another name to the list in JUCO transfer defensive end Josh Allen.
SU announced today that Allen has been medically disqualified from football after being diagnosed with a cardiac condition. He’d just arrived on campus in June from Long Beach City College.
In two seasons with LBCC, he racked up 88 tackles (29 for loss) and 9.5 sacks. With Syracuse this season, he was slated to potentially challenge for a starting gig — or worst-case, be a frequently-used reserve.
Allen’s loss is the third across the defensive line this offseason, following Steven Clark (blood clots) and Jaquwan Nelson (dismissal stemming from offseason arrest). The team has 12 D-linemen remaining across all positions.
Sad news for Allen, but we wish him the best in his future pursuits (at SU or elsewhere).
