The Basketball Tournament has announced 60 teams in the 64-team field for this summer’s event, and not surprisingly, Boeheim’s Army will be among them. Now in year three, the team of former Syracuse Orange basketball players made the field via fan vote.
Boeheim’s Army will enter the event in the Northeast Region, along with 15 other teams. Nine teams made it in via fan vote, then six more were added as at-large squads. The final team in the Northeast Region will come via the upcoming “Jamboree” round, which is similar to the NCAA Tournament’s play-in games.
Northeast bracket contests will take place in Philadelphia (at Philadelphia University) on July 8-9, as part of trimming the field down to the “Super 16.” The other three regions will hold their own first- and second-round games during early and mid-July to narrow that field before late July’s Super 16 and regional final games in New York. The Final Four and championship will take place in Baltimore in early August.
Once the Jamboree round concludes, the actual brackets (not just the teams in them) will be announced on June 20. That will largely be tied to the fan vote. Currently, Boeheim’s Army sits in third place in the Northeast, behind the South Jamaica Kings and Talladega Knights.
The full Northeast field includes:
- Boeheim's Army
- City of Gods
- DC On Point
- DuBois Dream
- FCM Untouchables
- GaelNation (Iona Alumni)
- OPI
- Rebel Riders (Rider Alumni)
- Sideline Cancer
- South Jamaica Kings
- Supernova (Villanova Alumni)
- Talladega Knights
- Team Fancy
- Team FOE
- Zoo Crew (Pittsburgh Alumni)
Boeheim’s Army isn’t the only Syracuse-affiliated team in the field either. Out in the West Region, the Pearl 31’s will be competing in Las Vegas to start. Dwayne Washington Jr. (Pearl’s son) is the GM of the team, which is playing to honor Pearl’s fight against cancer (and donate potential winnings to research).
The squad’s not entirely Syracuse-based, but you’ll likely recognize a few of the names on the roster. Former Orange players Terrence Roberts and Lazarus Sims will be joined by Kareem Rush, Tim Toler and more.
Good luck to both teams, and be sure to log votes for both before the June 20 seeding announcement.
