It was a big weekend of recruiting-related news for the Syracuse Orange. Dino Babers held a well-attended camp with tons of targets and a few commits. One of those commits in attendance was four-star offensive lineman Tyrone Sampson.
Before heading up to Syracuse for Sunday’s event, Sampson received some great news. The Detroit product was named to Team Vapor Speed at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore. on June 30.

This is the second consecutive year that an Orange commit has made one of the rosters for The Opening Finals, which are put on by Nike. Last year, it was quarterback Tommy DeVito, who’s since arrived on campus as a summer enrollee in the class of 2017.
As mentioned, his team announcement for The Opening Finals was far from the only activity for Sampson this weekend. Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey notes that SU’s top 2018 recruit was busy selling the Orange to other top targets all weekend. Some of those names included running back Hassan Hall, plus QBs Chance Amie and Will Levis.

Sampson also noted to Bailey that he’s still planing to be an early enrollee this December so he can get on campus early and participate in spring ball next year. He’s been a strong commit from the beginning, and is incredibly vocal about his passion for Dino Babers, the staff and SU overall.
(Also did we know that Babers had set up that full wall of NFL jerseys of players he’s coached? Pretty nice selling tool, even if none of those names played at Syracuse.)
Good luck to Tyrone at The Opening Finals later this month, and looking forward to seeing him continue to help the Orange pull together what’s setting up to be a very impressive class of 2018.
