Nike had a regional event for The Opening in Charlotte this weekend, featuring more than 300 potential FBS prospects. SB Nation’s Alex Kirshner was on-site, and keyed in on 19 specific players -- three of whom are Syracuse Orange offerees.
A quick rundown of those three:
Wanya Morris, offensive tackle
The four-star prospect is in the class of 2019, so not on the near-term radar. But he’s also already a Florida State commit, which makes it a tough sell to flip to Syracuse — at least right now. Still, Kirshner had this to say:
It’s really hard to evaluate line play at these camps, but Morris has everything one looks for in this setting: fluid movements, body control, and a big frame.
Rick Sandidge Jr., defensive tackle
Every big name is in on Sandige right now, so again, another stretch. But he’s a big name at a position of need for Syracuse — which could mean earlier opportunities for playing time than other schools (especially in the SEC) can provide.
Four-star Concord (N.C.) defensive tackle Rick Sandidge Jr. was outstanding. Sandidge is big — a listed 6’5 and 270-plus — but he moves like an end. South Carolina is considered the favorite for Sandidge, but he gave me the impression that his recruitment is still pretty open. Some team will get a good one.
Jaycee Horn, defensive back
Horn’s a three-star and was the defensive MVP of the event. He’s probably going to end up a four-star at some point soon, especially since he’s an Alabama lean. We’re not getting him, but worth mentioning we have an offer out to him.
