Syracuse softball earns sixth seed, matchup with North Carolina in ACC Tournament

The action starts Thursday.

After finishing the regular season 31-18 (10-10 in the ACC), the Syracuse Orange softball team has earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament. SU’s schedule wrapped up early last week, but the rest of the league completed their respective slates over the weekend (hence the delay in final seeding).

No. 6 Syracuse will match up with No. 3 North Carolina (36-18, 14-9) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Chapel Hill, N.C. Earlier this season, the Orange split two games with the Tar Heels in Syracuse — winning the first game 3-1 and falling 11-10 in the second.

Syracuse is unlikely to get an invite to the NCAA Tournament without winning the conference championship. That would not only require an upset over UNC, but then an additional win over Louisville or NC State, AND another over (probably) top-seed Florida State.

SU is a combined 1-3 against NC State and Louisville this year, and 0-3 vs. Florida State. Of the Orange’s 10 ACC wins this season, just two have come against teams in the conference tournament field.

For those that would like to tune into the action, you can watch on your local Regional Sports Network. The final will be on ESPN.
