Hughes is a 6-foot-6 wing from Beacon, N.Y., and played his high school ball with SU forward Matt Moyer at South Kent in Connecticut. Hughes transferred to South Kent for his senior season, and attended Kennedy Catholic High School prior to that.
Hughes was rated as a three-star prospect out of high school by the 247Sports Composite rankings. He had offers from East Carolina, Albany, Fairfield, Hofstra, Iona, Marist and Siena. He had interest from Georgia Tech, NC State, Oklahoma, Seton Hall and Temple, among others.
Hughes averaged 7.3 points in 20.5 minutes per game last season. He scored a season-high 19 points against South Florida on December 28.
ECU finished the year 15-18 overall (5-12 American).
Hughes will be forced to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules. Once he becomes eligible, he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.
Syracuse has three open scholarships for next season, and continue to pursue Jordan Tucker, Eric Ayala and Hameir Wright. You can now add Hughes to that list.
