After a strong 7-1-2 start to the 2016 season, the Syracuse Orange women’s soccer team unfortunately came undone once conference play began. They finished 8-8-3 overall and were just 1-7-2 in ACC contests.
But 2017’s a new year, and with that comes a new schedule. On Wednesday, the Orange announced the entire slate for this fall, which should pose its fair share of challenges.
Take a look at the full rundown below:
Exhibitions
August 5: at Penn State
August 12: at Rutgers
Regular Season
August 18: at Bucknell
August 21: Connecticut
August 24: at Army
August 27: at Florida
August 31: Cornell
September 3: Fairfield
September 7: Colgate
September 10: Harvard
September 15: Miami (FL)
September 21: Wake Forest
September 24: Clemson
September 30: at North Carolina
October 5: at Pittsburgh
October 8: at Notre Dame
October 14: at NC State
October 19: Virginia
October 22: Duke
October 26: at Virginia Tech
It’s worth mentioning that this schedule features 10 NCAA Tournament teams — which is no small number. There’s also a weird setup here where the Orange play seven straight at home, followed by four straight on the road.
While Syracuse is unlikely to be near the rankings to start the season, this schedule presents an opportunity to get there eventually. It’ll be a tough road, but with nearly 70 percent of the club’s scoring back, and one of the top goaltenders in the ACC (Courtney Brosnan), there’s some potential here.
