Three-star running back Akeem Dixon has committed to the Syracuse Orange for 2018. The news was first reported by Scout’s Mike McAllister, who spoke to Dixon on the announcement.
Dixon, a 6-foot, 210-pound running back from Vero Beach, Fla., holds offers from Louisville, Purdue, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Florida Atlantic and Marshall. 247Sports grades him as a top-100 running back in the class of 2018.
According to Scout, members of the Syracuse staff were at Vero Beach High School’s spring game on Friday night. Dixon’s a power back, which is something this team sorely needs. Right now, 2017 freshman Markenzy Pierre could be the program’s best bet to carry that load up the middle.
Dixon becomes Syracuse’s seventh addition to the class of 2018, and the first confirmed running back. Atrilleon Williams has experience at both running back and cornerback, but is likely to play on the defensive side of the ball. SU also has commitments from three other offensive players so far: Tyrone Sampson, Gabe Horan and Cooper Lutz. Dixon is the second Florida commit for 2018, joining Ja’Quirius Smith.
The Orange are also on the short list for Indianapolis linebacker Hugh Davis, who will make his decision later this month.
Welcome to the class of 2018, Akeem! Highlights below, for those interested.
